BC/DC

Once upon a time, in the small fishing village of Plugg (located near the equilateral end of the Arctic Circle), there lived two young lads - Mangus and Angus Hung. At a young age it was quite obvious that the Brothers Hung were different. In fact, even the birth of young Angus was a little odd. The boys mother, Mary Hung remembers "Budget cuts up north shut down the hospital in Plugg. So we just made do. I had little Angus in a barn. Three guys in dresses, who I swear I don't know, brought me incense and stuff. It seemed a little odd." Strangely enough, Mary's husband Joe was away fishing nine months before the birth. This led to some uncomfortable times in the Hung household. Eventually Joe forgave Mary and accepted wee Angus as his own son.

Mangus was a few years older than his brother and was delighted with the arrival of a sibling. Mangus related later that at a young age he had a vision. A dream that told him of his life mission - "The Coming of Angus". Together they would save the world from the evils of commercially viable boy bands. Mangus didn't really understand what it all meant, but soon enough it became clear.

In their early teens, they became fascinated with rock'n'roll. Mangus saw this as their only way out of Plugg. He bought his first real six string at the Five and Dime and practiced hard. He started a high school band, which was no small feat, as there wasn't even a high school in Plugg. But tragedy struck. Jimmy quit and Joey got married. "I should have known we'd never get far." Mangus said years later. It was at this point that the dream he had years previous came into focus.

Young Angus was the key...

The simple yet happy Angus was quite content packing herring in Plugg and didn't see eye to eye with his older brother. "Why would I want to leave my glorious barn and all these fish for a rock group?." After the older and wiser Mangus explained the dream and their mission, the confused Angus agreed and bought a guitar. "My brother can be quite persuasive and sometimes he gives me bad tattoos so I like to stay on his good side." Angus had a real natural talent for the guitar. Actually, he could play it worth a shit, even behind his head, he had all the moves necessary for rock stardom. Having retained the drummer (P. Thuddy) from their previous band (The Canoes) all they needed was a bass player.

They found him in a neighboring fishing village called Chunk. He was outside the 7-11 puking in a garbage can. Spliff Swilliams was an absolute drunkard with a carton a day smoking habit, even at the tender age of 16. He had cool hair and his uncle Ted had a bass guitar so he was in.

They decided that instrumental music was not their strong point and began searching for a singer. With a population of 15, Plugg was not likely to behold the golden boy of vocal gymnastics. It was at this point the lads decided to move to Pornograph Creek B.C. in hopes of finding their singer and developing what would become BC/DC.

Brian "Bon" Johnscottson was a 23 year old trapper who lived in a cardboard cabin just outside of Pornograph Creek. His folks were killed in a bizarre Rootweevil infestation a few years earlier. He was doing his best to keep the family trapping business alive. Not terribly adept in his given trade, Brian was starving. His pelts were mostly roadkill furs and didn't fetch much money at the trading post.

One afternoon as Brian was surveying his trap line out behind the gas station, he heard what he describes as "the loudest bloody racket I had ever encountered." Compelled to see what had made this sound, he stumbled on the Hung brothers and their band, "the No Shows" rehearsing for an upcoming gig in New York (N.W.T.). Seeing the obvious potential, Brian asked if they had a singer.

Mangus was writing at an alarming rate. Bringing to rehearsal complete rock masterpieces. Angus would later describe in an interview, "My brother is very talented. He wrote what seemed like five complete albums worth of songs in a week. Every one of them had a strangely familiar sound. That is his true talent. Writing songs that are so good, you think you've heard them before."

Not having much luck booking gigs, they changed their name to Brewers Yeast and then to Grand Junk Snailway, finally settling on BC/DC. All of the sudden they were getting gigs all over the west and east north. It was at one such show in Whitehorse that they met the man who would become their mentor and manager. Gene Treasoner.

Fill Thud once remarked. "With Mangus' songs, Angus' stage moves, Brians’ trouser ripping screams, my backbeat and Spliffs’ solid bass playing 'n bitchin' hair coupled with Gene's absolute disregard for fair business practice, BC/DC were a band that couldn't lose."

"These kids have rock star potential. They have the ability to rip off...I mean, write amazingly catchy radio friendly hard rock tunes that people gobble up like pigs. They are magnetic. It's certainly not their good looks, if you know what I mean. People just love 'em. Like drunk flies to a pile of shit, I tell ya." - Gene Treasoner
